Q. Write the main difference between micro-controller and microprocessor. Why do smart home appliances have a micro-controller instead of microprocessor embedded in them?

The micro-controller is a small computing device which has a CPU, a fixed amount of RAM, ROM and other peripherals all embedded on a single chip as compared to microprocessor that has only a CPU on the chip.

Microprocessors contain a CPU and it require to add RAM, ROM and other things to do a task which requires more space. But in the case of micro-controllers it don’t require external parts as it already consists of CPU, RAM, ROM and other things. So a micro-controller requires less space. That is the reason smart home appliances have a micro-controller instead of microprocessors embedded in them.
